Polish Town Street Fair and Polka Fest
Itching to experience a new culture without the hassle of weekend traffic or the trip to JFK? The Polish Town USA Street Fair and Polka Fest offers a way to experience cultural traditions in a completely out of the ordinary way.
The festival is a huge draw each year to the tiny neighborhood of Polish Town , with thousands of people flooding the streets to celebrate this unique part of Riverhead. Polish immigrants and subsequent generations have imbued the community with the charm of the old country, including special street signs and beautiful traditionally painted houses.
While Polish traditions are celebrated, the event itself is a mix of everything. You’ll be exposed to quirky and unique experiences, like a re-enactment of a traditional Polish wedding. If you feel competitive or want to show off for your family and friends, why not join in the corn husking contest to see if you’re the fastest shucker in the land? And of course, you’ll find more mainstream traditions, like a Polka Dancing festival with live music, arts and craft vendors, and a variety of Polish culinary delights for sale, like kielbasa and homemade pierogis!
Polish Town USA Street Fair and Polka Fest takes place on both August 17th and 18th on Pulaski Street in Riverhead. The event runs from 10 am to 6:00 pm, and street parking is available. Admission is free! The Polka Dance Festival takes place from 5:00-1:00 pm in Riverhead’s Polonaise Park, and admission is $13 (free for anyone 5 and under.) Don’t be thrown by the website which still has dates for 2018!
